Ashley on a roll
July 6, 2009

Recently listed among Forbes's Top 100 most powerful celebrities in the world and named one of Teen People's 25 hottest stars under the age of 25, Ashley Tisdale is a star on the rise.

Best known for her role as Sharpay Evans, starring opposite Zac Efron in the original movie, High School Musical, she is now set to feature in the upcoming film They Came From Upstairs.

Also this year, Tisdale is slated to start shooting a starring role in the feature film Teen Witch.

Directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega, High School Musical premiered in January 2006 and became the highest rated telecast in Disney Channel history.

Tisdale made music history by being the first female artist to ever debut with two songs simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (Bop To The Top and What I've Been Looking For, both from the High School Musical soundtrack).

High School Musical 2 premiered as the most watched cable telecast of all time, while High School Musical 3: Senior Year's cinema release opened at No 1 at the US box-office, with more than R2-billion in sales.

Tisdale's debut album, Headstrong, has sold more than a million copies worldwide.

She is currently completing her second album.

The star has also executive produced and starred in the MGM feature Picture This, directed by Stephen Herek.

She first gained worldwide attention - and notoriety - by playing Maddie, a hotel candy-counter clerk and babysitter of devious twin boys who live in The Tipton Hotel on the Disney Channel series, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

Her acting credits include a featured role in the film Donnie Darko, with Jake Gyllenhaal, Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Duval.

Tisdale was also a series regular on Nathan's Choice and Mayor of Oyster Bay, and had recurring roles on The George Lopez Show, Still Standing and The Hughleys.

Manager Bill Perlman, who continues to represent Tisdale today, discovered her at the age of three in her hometown mall in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

After booking the first audition she was sent out on, Tisdale went on to star in dozens of US network commercials.

At the age of eight she booked a leading role in the national tour of the Broadway musical Les Miserables. She then toured internationally with the cast of Annie.

Tisdale currently lives in Los Angeles.
