Ahoy! To spies and secrets
July 20, 2009

The fourth season of NCIS premieres on Hallmark (channel 108) on Wednesday for a double bill and the show continues in the slot thereafter.

The third season finale of NCIS ended with the dramatic retirement of team leader Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon).

The fourth season kicks off with a new team leader, Anthony Dinozzo (played by Michael Weatherly), and a frantic mission to prove Ziva David's (Cote de Pablo) innocence after a political assassination tied to the Israeli agency she was sent by.

In the US it soared NCIS to its highest ratings among adults 18 to 34, adults 25 to 54 and adults 18 to 49. In addition, De Pablo was awarded Best Supporting Actress at the 2006 Imagen Awards for her role.

"The fourth season of NCIS will be known as the 'Season of Secrets', with captivating arcs and unexpected endings. The series is sure to intrigue and entertain our devoted fans as well as those new to the series," said executive producer and creator Donald P Bellisario.

For those not familiar with NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service), it focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations.

Gibbs, who was a former Marine gunnery sergeant, is replaced by Special Agent Anthony Dinozzo, a former homicide detective whose instincts in the field are unparallelled and whose quick wit and humorous take on life made him a team favourite.

The rest of the team is made up of the youthful and energetic forensic specialist Abby Sciuto, a talented scientist whose dark wit matches her goth style and eclectic tastes; special agent Timothy McGee, an MIT graduate whose brilliance with computers far overshadows his insecurities in the field; and Ziva David, a former Mossad agent who is perhaps the most dangerous member of the team.

Assisting the team is medical examiner Dr Donald "Ducky" Mallard, who knows it all because he's seen it all.

Rounding out the team is NCIS director Leon Vance, an intelligent, highly trained agent, whose arrival on the scene has already shaken up the status quo.

From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, these special agents travel the globe to investigate all crimes with navy or marine corps ties.

It returns with the same formula of fast-moving action, wit and humour that fans have come to expect.
