Big Brother ends with a bang
December 7, 2009

By Munyaradzi Vomo

"I feel like Obama right now," was the first thing this year's Big Brother Africa winner, Kevin Chuwang said after the announcement of his win.

Not that we expected any other eventuality but it was an entertaining finale. The night must have been a painfully long wait for the five remaining contestants as they each hoped they would walk away with $200 000 (about R1,4-million).

It felt like a mini Lagos with a considerable number of Joburg's Nigerian community gathered at the Sasani studios in Highlands North literally flooding the venue in support of Kevin.

They wore T-Shirts with the contestant's face and name. Though the other Nigerian contestant, Nkenna, was still in the house, she may as well have come from another country because she got little support from her countrymen.

Being the first to be evicted, she put on a brave face as she walked to show host IK to talk about her time in the house.

"I feel great that this is all over now. It has been an amazing journey for me and I loved every bit of it," she said. Though she missed out on the big prize she did not walk empty-handed she earned a Money Pot worth $2 990.

IK then announced that Malawi's Mzamo was next to go.

Sporting space goggles that looked something out of Lady Gaga’s wardrobe, Mzamo strutted into the spotlight like a rockstar.

Looking back at her highlights reel she undoubtedly was the most entertaining member of this year's group. From the booze and the chainsmoking to the violence, Mzamo barely ran out of things to do.

While Kevin, Angola's Emma and Eddy from Namibia were gnashing their teeth, the audience was treated to a impressive performance by US rapper, Bow Wow.

A hit with the ladies, the young rapper took a trip down memory lane performing the hit Bow Wow Wow Yipee Yo Yipee Yay with his die-hard fans singing along.

After the performance, it was back to IK announcing the third-placed contestant who turned out to be Eddy. A sizable crowd was visibly disappointed, which prompted the Kevin camp to go crazy as they began to chant his name and sing songs in jubilation.

"I can't believe it is me. I can't believe I have made it," said a teary Kevin. Since the beginning of the show, he was a favourite of many, and in the end he owned the night.

He is one contestant who tried to make relationships in the house (but to no avail), yet still managed to entertain Africa.
