Oppikoppi Sexy. Crooked. Teeth Festival is happening from August 6 to 8. And with the 9th being Women's Day, it's a great opportunity to recover from the hangover and dust.
The press release reads: "That's right folks, faux pas and oupas, it actually has nothing to do with teeth. Soon all will go crooked anyway, with the bushveld, the music and the beautiful madness conspiring to make you just like Jack Parow requires you: Sexy Korrek"... Which pretty much sums up most people's plans for this awesome weekend.
The line-up is amazing. A highlight will surely be the talented Albert Frost with Vusi Mahlasela. Billy Talent are billed as the international highlight with Gemma Ray and Lucky Fonz a close second. Locally we can't wait for Jack Parow, who is probably the hottest artist in South Africa at the moment. Pestroy have also made a welcome return to the scene, so expect hard and heavy.
The Narrow are making a rare appearance, but they should be on fire purely because vocalist Hanu is one of the best musicians to come out of this country.
For light and fun, check out Gang of Instrumentals while Prime Circle bring commercial rock to the stage. Even if you don't like this band, they are worth checking out because they are the tightest and loudest rock band in the country.
On the DJ side a highlight will be the young Culoe De Song and, of course, Krushed 'n Sorted, Blunted Stuntman and DJ Bob are always world class.
Comedy will be provided by The Most Amazing Show. The duo have really become part of the Oppikoppi experience.
Also look out for Blk Jks, Cortina Whiplash, Flash Republic, Rambling Bones and Voodoo Child. If you're looking for esoteric music, look no further than Scicoustic.
And the biggest highlight, no doubt, is going to be the Valiant Swart Tribute Show. Various artists will perform 20 songs by Die Mystic Boer.
Tickets are available at www.ticketbreak.co.za for R450. A full line-up of the bands is available on the Oppikoppi website.
