Outside of awards season or their film premieres, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are rarely spotted together at public events.
Following recent rumours of problems in their nearly five year relationship, the couple stepped out together at the the Museum of Contemporary Art's new 30th anniversary exhibition in Los Angeles.
However, far from their usual red carpet public displays of affection, the couple simply walked a short distance apart as they were shown the gallery's collection on a private tour.
The couple walked quietly around the gallery, looking at pieces by artists such as Jackson Pollock and Piet Mondrian, occasionally separating to study pieces more closely on their own.
Wearing a strapless black Armani Prive gown with her hair flowing down, Jolie, 34, looked tired and slim with her arms looking noticeable veiny.
Pitt, 45, looked dapper in his black Tom Ford suit, but gave his smart look a scruffy slant with her busy greying beard, which had been threaded into tiny hippy beads.
The evening of art was a rare outing for the pair without their six children Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox.
The handsome pair's outing followed weeks of revelations about their private life in excerpts from the upcoming biography Brangelina by Ian Halperin.
Jolie's father Jon Voight, who has been estranged from the actress for many years, revealed this month he was back in contact with her again.
Voight told Us Weekly: "We're in touch, but not regularly. We love each other and that's the most important thing."
The father-daughter duo fell out in 2001 after Voight appeared on TV and appeared emotional as he asked her to get help for her "serious mental problems".
A family friend added that the twosome "met face-to-face" in February and have been talking ever since.
The friend added: "Angie made the initial contact. Brad has been supportive - a key factor in her reaching out."
Following Jolie and Pitt's private tour, the couple joined dozens of A-listers for a special dinner and show to mark the 30th anniversary of the gallery.
The star-studded guests were entertained with a special performance by Lady Gaga and a troupe of ballet dancers.
Avoiding the floor-length couture was the ever-stylish Gwen Stefani, who wore a monochrome corset top with black trousers and her husband Gavin Rossdale as her date.
The couple were seated on the same table as English film director Guy Ritchie, who arrived solo.
A host of British celebrities attended the bash, including Kate Beckinsale, Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson and Hollywood's next big thing Carey Mulligan, star of An Education.
Beckinsale looked stunning in a floor-length asymmetrical green dress, while Scots singer Manson went for goth glamour in a dramatic black gown.
Taking time out of promoting her new movie The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, Eva Mendes looked chic in a black and nude shift dress.
Little black dresses appeared to be the dominant fashion at Saturday's bash, with R&B singer Ciara, Christina Ricci, Star Trek actress Zoe Saldana and Jessica Alba all going for black.
Also in attendance was Pierce Brosnan and his wife Keely Shaye-Smith, Chloe Sevigny, James Franco, Marisa Tomei and Peaches Geldof. - Daily Mail
