Durban-based Videovision Entertainment has contributed 13 films to the 30th Durban International Film Festival.
All the films will be released on to the local commercial circuit by early next year with dates already finalised for Deepa Mehta's disturbing Heaven on Earth (July 31), Michael Winterbottom's moving Genova (August 7), Steve Jacobs's impressive adaptation of JM Coetzee's award-winning novel, Disgrace (August 14) and Ken Loach's charming Looking for Eric (September 4).
Other films to be released include Steven Soderbergh's two movies (Che 1 and Che 2) on the life of the famous Argentinian revolutionary, Che Guevara; the widely acclaimed Australian film, Samson and Delilah, which won the Camera d'Or at Cannes this year; and Woody Allen's latest comedy, Whatever Works, that ends this year's festival.
Also included in the line-up are documentaries on the legendary boxer Mike Tyson and the troubled Argentinian football genius, Diego Maradona.
Commenting on Videovision's participation, the company's head of acquisition and distribution, Sanjeev Singh, said: "We are delighted to be continuing our association with the festival with 13 films this year.
"The festival has grown significantly and is now the leading festival in the country. As a Durban-based company, we are proud to be supporting it with our critically acclaimed films."
The manager of the festival, Nashen Moodley, described Videovision's contribution this year as a "magnificent slate".
"We at the festival consider them as valued partners in championing important cinema," he said. - The Mercury
