Win tickets to My Fair Lady
July 24, 2009

One of the biggest recent successes at Durban's Playhouse Company - the evergreen musical My Fair Lady - is returning from November 20 to December 30 at the Playhouse Opera.

And the good news for five lucky Mercury readers is that they and a partner will attend the opening night performance.

To be in line to win two tickets, simply SMS "Fair Lady", followed by your name, to 31455 by 8am Monday. SMS charges are at normal cellphone rates.

The five lucky winners of the double comps will be contacted by telephone early next week.

One of the world's all-time box-office hit shows, the much-loved My Fair Lady will return in a sumptuous staging directed by and starring Ralph Lawson.

This classic rags-to-riches tale will star Gina Shmukler (Chess, Unforgettable) and Lisa Bobbert (Abba Maniacs, My Fair Lady, Little Shop of Horrors), alternating in the lead role as Elisa Doolittle, the Cockney flower-seller who is transformed into a high-society lady.

With choreography by Mark Hawkins, costumes by Neil Stuart-Harris and a stellar cast performing to the live accompaniment of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Naum Rousine, this big-stage family entertainment is not to be missed.

Themi Venturas will reprise his award-winning 2006 portrayal of delightful reprobate Alfred Doolittle and Frank Graham and Cobus Venter return to their roles as Colonel Pickering and Freddie Eynsford-Hill, respectively.

Adapted from George Bernard Shaw's play and Gabriel Pascal's movie Pygmalion, My Fair Lady boasts a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. Its score by Frederick Loewe comprises a string of hit numbers that are among the most enduring in the history of showbusiness.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 1956 with Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison in the lead roles. It opened at Drury Lane in London in 1958, and has since enjoyed countless stage revivals the world over, while its 1964 movie version starring Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn has been seen by millions.

Hit numbers from the show include The Rain in Spain, I Could Have Danced All Night, Wouldn't It Be Luverly?, With a Little Bit o' Luck, Just You Wait, On the Street Where You Live, Get Me To the Church On Time and I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face.

Booking is already open for the season. Pre-booked tickets range from R80 to R12.

Booking is via the Playhouse box-office (call 031 3699 596 or 031 3699 540) or at Computicket.
