She also contributed to L!VE TV in London as a studio presenter and reporter and to SABC TV as a news correspondent in London.

Speaking on the appointment from the channel's headquarters in Doha, director of news Steve Clark said, "Jane brings a wealth of experience spanning three continents."

"It's great to be joining Al Jazeera International at its inception and to have the opportunity to present from its headquarters in the Middle East, bringing a fresh perspective on world news to English speakers around the world," said Dutton.

She will present from the channel's Doha headquarters - one of four broadcast centres strategically placed around the world in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington DC.

As the headquarters, Doha will be responsible for the majority of the channel's daily news output with the rest of the transmission being split between the other centres. - Tonight Reporter
