Tickets to Oprah event in SA sell out in four minutes flat

By Candice Bailey
Every woman wants to be around when Oprah Winfrey hands out gifts.
And South African women are no exception.
Tickets to the latest Oprah event on South African shores at the end of November sold out in four minutes flat this week.
Sales opened on Monday morning, and tickets cost R750.
But that didn't deter any of South Africa's fair sex, who flocked to the more than 600 Computicket outlets across the country to get their tickets.
Tickets were limited to two per person, and were sold only to people who had bought this month's O Magazine, which had a unique ticket number in it.
If it's Oprah's sought-after goody bags people are after, they will be disappointed.
This show is a motivational talk, where Oprah and SA's O Magazine editor Samantha Page will head a discussion, "You Have The Power".
Oprah's favourite things - an annual segment on her shows - features a list of things she likes that year, some of which are given to the entire studio audience that day.
Her goody bags have featured everything from croissants to Blackberry phones, computers and Burberry coats.
But for their R750 each guest will receive a gift bag, a six-month subscription to O Magazine and breakfast.
Sama award-winning Afro-fusion band Freshlyground will provide the entertainment on the day and a portion of the ticket sales will be donated to charity.
The show, on November 30, has been billed as an inspiring morning with Oprah.
"This is the second time our readers will have the opportunity to be in the company of one of the most influential women in the world," said Page. "We are very excited and thrilled to host Ms Winfrey and give O Magazine readers the opportunity to attend what promises to be an inspirational morning," she added.
Jaco-Louis Groenewald, PR manager at Associated Magazines said it was not unusual for Oprah events to sell out.
